Top 3 FPL Captain Picks for Gameweek 2 (2025/26)

FPL Gameweek 2: The Best Captain Choices

Erling Haaland (TOT) - Highest Projected Point Scorer

Haaland led all players in Gameweek 1 for shots in the box (6) and big chances (3). At home last season, only Watkins (19) and Wissa (21) recorded more big chances than his 18 – despite Haaland playing just 14 matches. He also ranked second for Expected Goals (xG) at home with 11.52.

Man City were dominant at the Etihad last season, scoring 43 goals (the most in the league). They created the most big chances (66), the second-most shots (318), and posted the second-highest home xG (40.92), behind only Liverpool (41.49).

Spurs, meanwhile, struggled on their travels. They conceded 30 away goals (14th worst), managed only 4 clean sheets, and ranked mid-table defensively — 14th for shots in the box conceded (189) and 10th for xGC (30.06).

Mohamed Salah (new) - Highly Projected Points Alternative

Salah was prolific in away games last year with 16 goals in 19 matches, no player took more shots in the box (68), was afforded more 'big chances' (32) or registered a higher xG (17.15) in away games than the Egyptian international.

As the below image from our Opta Player Heatmaps feature shows, he averaged 10.1 FPL points per game in away matches last season.

Liverpool scored 44 goals in away matches last season, the highest in the league. The Merseyside outfit were also top for 'big chances' (87) and xG (49.69) on their travels.

Their hosts Newcastle conceded 20 goals in 19 home matches last season and kept eight clean sheets. However, the Magpies were ranked 13th for shots in the box conceded (238) and eighth for xGC (25.17).

Bukayo Saka (LEE) - The Differential

Saka notched six goals and 11 assists for the Gunners last season despite a campaign blighted by injury, the England international featured for just 1736 minutes but was still top for 'big chances' created (22) amongst their players, as shown in the below image from our Opta Stats Sandbox.

Meanwhile, only Trossard (72) and their new signing Madueke (80) took more shots last season than his 67.

Arsenal scored 35 goals in home games last campaign (fifth) and were ranked fifth for both shots (306) and shots on target (105).

Their opponents Leeds conceded 19 goals in away games last season (second in the Championship) but were ranked top for xGC (18.4) in away games.
